BEST FRIENDS SPEECH....

Billy and Mac are still in the faculty lounge.
B: You know Mac, (he throws is the history book down, and takes off his backpack) every time I think about about the arguments that we've had, one thing is pretty obvious. (He sits down)
M: What's that?
B: That I've almost always been the one who starts them.
M: I've said some pretty stupid stuff too.
B: Come on Mac, I'm trying to apologize here, doesn't happen very often so go with it. (Mac smiles)
M: Okay, apology accepted.
B: You know, I think I know why I've acted like such a jerk.
M: Well, are you going to tell me or am I going to have to guess. (Mac sits down, she takes her backpack off)
B: Well, the truth is...I was sorta jealous. (Mac smiles, and stares at him. In the next scene Mac stands up and walks across the room, and smiles)
M: Jealous huh?
B: Yeah.
M: I know what you mean. I was feeling a little jealous too.
B: You're kidding.
M: Does that surprise you? (He gets up from his chair)
B: I don't know it...it's weird though isn't it?
M: Yeah, I mean for the longest time, I thought that you didn't like me.
B: I thought the same thing about you.
M: Which is crazy because 'cause that is not at all how I feel.
B: No, me neither. I mean (he walks behind her) you and Raul, you seem like you guys are doing great. (Mac turns around and looks at him) Brittany and me ah...well I don't know what's going on there. I guess I was frustrated. I took it out on you and I'm really sorry about that.
M: Hey, that's okay. (She steps closer to him)
B: I've been kind of a creep.
M: It was not all just you. Incase you haven't noticed. I tend to make things a little dramatic too. (He smiles)
B: Come here. (He hugs her. HE IS SO SWEET! They look so happy)

In the next scene they were still hugging, they pull apart. Billy still has his hands on her waist, and he looks at her.
B: I want you to know that I really am sorry. And that I did, or said anything to hurt you.
M: Forget it.
B: So no more arguments okay.
M: Never again. (Billy smiles)
B: And I promise, I'll stop hassling you too.
M: Hassling me?
B: You know with Raul or any of that.
M: Wait. What do you mean? (She’s confused.)
B: What I mean is that I'm cool with how things are. With you and Raul, you're relationship, okay? (He walks to the other side of the room)
M: Your okay with that? (He sits on the table)
B: Totally.
M: Exactly how do you see my relationship with Raul?
B: Same as mine with Brittany, you and Raul are a couple. Me and you, we're best friends. The very best. (She looks like her heart is broken)
M: Best friends?
B: That's right. Come's as a surprise huh?
M: Yeah right. (He gets up and walks over by her)
B: After all of the battles we've had, I suppose we should have realized this sooner.
M: When...when did you?
B: Now! I was talking to Brittany and it hit me.
M: What hit you?
B: That you and I have been going though a big change.
M: What do you mean?
B: Well I...I kept trying to tell myself that things would get better if I was just patient you know, and tried to spend more time with Brittany. And just nothing seemed to be happening.
M: But now it is?
B: Yeah, big time. Yeah, I had this terrific conversation with her. It was really cool, the way she dealt with my mom.
M: How?
B: Well, she stood up for us, for our relationship. For the first time it's working Mac, you know I'm beginning to see that there is more to Brittany than I've realized. (She forces a smile)
M: Really:
B: Yeah, you know I just needed to get to know her more. And, now that I have I...I really think that she might be the right girl for me. (Billy how could you say that?)
M: Well that's...that's really great Billy. That's great. (She forces another smile)
B: Yeah, I'm relieved. You should be too all right? You have Raul, I got Brit. Me and you will always be... (He looks at her)
M: Best friends.

B: That's right. Well I gotta run okay? I'll see you later. (He taps her on the shoulder, you know the way best friends do. He goes over and picks up his packbag and the history, opens the door looks back at her and says Bye, he leaves, she just stands there like she's just been kicked in the stomach.)
